Edith is a grandmother in her 70s, who first came to our Community Drop-in in a state of crisis. She arrived with her six-year-old grandson, overwhelmed and unsure where to turn.
Edith had always lived in rented accommodation with her husband and supported her adult neurodiverse child as best she could. When her husband became unwell, their circumstances deteriorated rapidly and she was asked to leave her rented home. Around the same time, she was grieving the loss of her elderly father. With very limited income and no clear understanding of the support available, she was facing homelessness.
At our drop-in, our Community Worker helped Edith explore her options. We helped her register for social housing, and helped her talk through her worries with no rush or pressure. Our group provided compassion and an emotional refuge during a deeply uncertain time. She returned multiple times for support with her situation, and the Drop-in became a consistent place of welcome and reassurance for both Edith and her grandson.
Edith’s housing situation has now been resolved, and she has moved to more secure accommodation outside the area. Edith speaks openly about how safe and supported she felt during her time with us. She now volunteers at Eveswell, supporting others facing similar challenges.
