Two Turkish ladies began attending our community meals, cooking sessions and drop-in's. They were new to Newport and were struggling to find community and support, with limited income and few affordable places locally where they felt welcome.

Both women were out of work and struggling financially. For one, this was compounded by her husband working in Turkey for long periods, leaving her isolated and carrying the full weight of daily childcare and responsibilities. With limited English and little knowledge of local opportunities, finding community and stability felt out of reach for both women.

They are now regular attendees, visiting the Centre multiple times per week. They share food (occasionally bringing food to sessions) and stories about culture with other families and children. They now have many friendships in the neighbourhood and contribute meaningfully to life at Eveswell.

Both women are now exploring volunteering opportunities with us. One is hoping to soon volunteer co-delivering artistic sessions at the Centre, something she had not previously had the confidence to pursue. They also say the Centre is helping them develop their English skills.
